  5. ---------
  6. To run either CV+ or School CV a System directory must have been 'seen';
  7. specifically the modules Colours, MsgTrans. Also fonts must have also been
  8. seen. A suitable printer driver will also be required. The applications will
  9. run ok on a 1MB machine, and allocating more memory to the font cache will
  10. speed things up considerably. They work equally well under RISC OS 2 or 3.
  11.  
  12. Install and use the applications in the normal RISC OS way. A manual is
  13. available (see below) but since the program conforms to the RISC OS
  14. guidelines then you should find much of it straightforward. School CV should
  15. be used by pupils about to  leave (ie Year 11), while CV+ is for pupils in
  16. higher education (ie 16-18's).

  18. You can import a photograph of yourself (provided it is a sprite), or a
  19. drawfile to use as a backdrop, by dragging and dropping. Try this with the
  20. two sample files provided.

  24. This software is shareware. If you use it beyond 30 days then you should
  25. send a cheque for 5.99 to the address below, along with your name/address
  26. & who/what organisation you want the programs registered to.You will receive
  27. the full manual and a new version of the program registered to you/your

  57. Shown below is a brief description (E & O.E) of applications by the same
  58. author. Virtually all are of an educational nature, running under the WIMP.
  59. Most work on RISC OS 2, all work on RISC OS 3. I have not tried them on a
  60. RISC PC, but they ought to be ok!
  61.  
  62. Geography:
  63. * Where & Grid - Designed for Key Stage 3, Where & Grid are two
  64.   complementary applications. They test locations of countries (Europe &
  65.   Africa), towns, counties (UK only) rivers, montains, bearings, four and
  66.   six figure grid references. Currently the set covers the UK, Europe
  67.   & Africa.
  68. * OS_Symbols - Designed for Key Stage 3, OS_Symbols tests knowledge of a
  69.   range of OS Map symbols. A particular symbol is displayed and the correct
  70.   description must be found - time limits can be set.
  71. * Forecast - Produce your own weather maps just like on TV with symbols and
  72.   isobars. Variety of maps supplied; wind chill can be determined.
  73. * Predict - Predict the weather for the next 24 hours by supplying data
  74.   such are pressure and wind direction.
  75. * Link - A 'blockbuster' type quiz game, where all the words are connected
  76.   with Key Satge 3 geography.

  78. Science:
  79. * Circuit symbols - Tests knowledge of circuit and electronic symbols
  80.   against the clock.
  81. * Assist: Science AT4 - Produce a wide range of worksheets for topics on 
  82.   AT4. Each topic has a wide range categories including word searches,
  83.   crosswords, True or False, Anagrams and Missing words. Worksheets are
  84.   created from a databank, so they are different each time they are printed.
  85. * Assist: Equations - Produce four types of worksheets based on chemical
  86.   equations. Categories are Balancing equations, Missing product, Missing
  87.   reactant and Right or Wrong. Because a databank is used, worksheets are
  88.   different each time they are printed.
  89. * Assist: Periodic Table - Print a customised Periodic Table. Displayed data
  90.   can include mass number, density, boiling point, melting point,
  91.   radioactive isotopes, atomic radius, atomic volume, covalent radius,
  92.   ionisation energy, & electronegativity. Graphs and periodic trends can
  93.   also be produced.
  94. * Periodic Table - Click on a particular element to display relevant data. 
  95. * ArcMedia: Space - A simple hypermedia system on the Solar System. Designed
  96.   to be 1Meg RISC OS 2 friendly. Variety of NASA images.
  97. * Multiple Choice Chemistry - Several hundred multiple questions (some with
  98.   pictures) covering GCSE Chemistry. Time limits can be set.
  99. * Multiple Choice Physics - Several hundred multiple questions (some with
  100.   pictures) covering GCSE Physics. Time limits can be set.

  102. Word Puzzles:
  103. * Word Search - Application for creating word searches. Control over grid
  104.   size, displayed fonts, grid shape & borders is provided.
  105. * Do Search - Compliments the Word Search application. Data files from Word
  106.   Search can be dragged into Do Search, allowing the word search to be done
  107.   on screen
  108. * X-Word - Creates and prints crosswords from words and clues provided by
  109.   the user. Control over grid size, displayed fonts & borders is provided.
  110. * Do-Word - Compliments the X-Word application. Data files from X-Word can
  111.   be dragged into Do Word, allowing the crossword to be done on screen.
  112. * Anagram - Reconstruct the jumbled up word by solid dragging of the
  113.   letters. Hint feature is also provided.
  114. * Guess - Guess the word chosen by the computer. Hint feature provided.
  115. * Bottle - Hangman type game, but with bottles. Hints also provided.
  116. * Cloze - Removes words (user can determine how many) from a passage of
  117.   text. User must then reconstruct the entire text by entering words into
  118.   gaps in the text. Add your own passages of text easily. Summary can be
  119.   printed.

  121. Picture Puzzles:
  122. * Blocksaw - Jigsaw type application, using blocks for the pieces. Accepts
  123.   sprite and draw files. Size of the grid can be varied to cover a wide
  124.   range of abilities.
  125. * Tile - Picture is broken into a series of tiles, and then the tiles mixed
  126.   up. The picture must be recreated by swapping tiles. Uses sprite or draw
  127.   files; allows the number of tiles to be varied and has three difficulty
  128.   levels.
  129. * Slide - Sliding block puzzle. Uses sprite or draw files; allows the number
  130.   of tiles to be varied and has three difficulty levels.
  131. * Rows n Cols - Recreate a picture (either sprite or draw) by sliding rows
  132.   or columns into their correct positions.

  134. Miscellaneous:
  135. * Link - A 'blockbuster' type quiz game for up to three players. Database
  136.   can be easily modified to include your own words.
  137. * Multiple Choice (General) - Multiple choice quiz, some with pictures. Many
  138.   general knowledge topics covered. Editor also available so you can create
  139.   your own tests.
  140. * Multiple Choice Maths - Several hundred multiple questions (some with
  141.   pictures) covering GCSE Maths. Time limits can be set.
  142. * ArcMedia (Cats) - A simple hypermedia system on the Cat Family. Designed
  143.   to be 1Meg RISC OS 2 friendly. 
  144. * Word Tester - Tests knowledge of the correct word for numbers from one to
  145.   one hundred in various languages. Played against the clock.
  146. * Facemaker - Use your computer to design a face, then either print or
  147.   export as a sprite file.
  148. * Desktop Turtle - Create on screen graphics with a 'Turtle' within a
  149.   desktop window. Wide range of commands supported including numeric
  150.   variables as well as sprites and sounds. Other features include variable
  151.   line thickness, auto symmetry and backdrops.
  152. * Birthday & Today. Produce an A4 sized poster on events taking place in
  153.   history either on your Birthday or any particular day. Information
  154.   displayed includes Famous Birthdays on the same day, events, films, songs
  155.   and sporting events. Variety of borders/watermarks provided.
  156. * School CV & CV+. School leavers (CV) or sixth form students (CV+) can
  157.   quickly create a CV by entering data. Layouts can be chosen from a
  158.   predefined set, and fonts changed. DTP style output without having to use
  159.   a DTP application.
